Sport @ St. Tees.
Vision
Sport… it brings out many emotions. Love, hate, hope, despair. The dark side of sport is often exposed before millions of people around the world, whether in fights on football fields or cheating in Formula One. The bright side can bring great groups together and give individuals purpose and happiness.
But is there an even greater hope for Sport than this? The apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians:
“…Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” (NLT)
We already have one group that plays football every Sunday night at the University of Cumbria. The majority of the players don’t come to church, but there are wonderful chances to share the Good News in that place, in an environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
We as Christians believe the greatest hope for sport, and people who play sport, is that the fragrance of Christ can be present in and through our activity. And that’s what we want to do here at St. Tees!
Purpose
A group of us have been meeting to discuss two things…
- Can we better support people involved in sports?
- Can we reach out through this important medium?
We have gathered information and talked with you, and have discovered that there is much that we can do together. Starting in the New Year we hope to have regular groups meeting to Run, Cycle, Play Badminton, Table Tennis, and Cricket. Also there has been great interest in day events, such as Bank Holiday Walks, and even the possibility of a Water Sports activity day!
This very accessible social networking site provides us with great tools to organise events and communicate news. There are a number of different St. Tees Groups set up and waiting for you to join:
