Student Hospitality Scheme
Not the friendliest name but with the friendliest intentions, the S.H.S is a chance to meet friendly people who will welcome you into St Thomas church and to Lancaster.
Everyone needs to get out of their own bubble at some point, whether you are just arriving at University, been there for years or have graduated, it is nice to have a bit of T.L.C in a loving atmosphere with people who are out of your situation.
There are many people who come to St Thomas church who are just dying to provide a bit of lunch for a younger person and give them loads of attention. What exactly goes on is up to you and your host. This could range from some free food every now and then, to days out of Lancaster together, to baby sitting, to bible study to more of a formal mentoring role. What ever works for you.
Just get in touch (if you are a host or the hosted).
Just a note: Unfortunately we can't provide ready made friendships but we can provide some people and situations to hopefully begin lasting friendships. =)
One student said this of the Scheme:
"The student hospitality scheme involved being linked with a family in church. We would have lunch together several times through the year, chat about how things were going, God, and life in general, (and walk the dog!). It was really good to get to know a family in the church well, especially at the beginning, and to spend a little time away from other students and uni life" - Lucy.
